Ho Chi Minh: The Father of Modern Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh (1890–1969) was a Vietnamese communist revolutionary and statesman who became a pivotal figure in the 20th century. Born Nguyễn Sinh Cung, he traveled globally, adopted Marxist-Leninist ideology, and co-founded the French Communist Party before dedicating himself to Vietnamese independence.

He formed the Việt Minh independence movement in 1941 to fight against French and Japanese occupation. Following World War II, he declared the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam) and served as its first president. Known affectionately as "Uncle Ho," he led the forces that defeated the French at Dien Bien Phu and guided North Vietnam through the war against the US-backed South, fighting for the reunification of the country until his death. The former capital of South Vietnam, Saigon, was renamed Ho Chi Minh City in his honor.
